Definition of silverfish?

Silverfish, also called silverfish for their silvery grey colour, are half an inch tall and have two long antennae in the front and three long hairs at the end of the abdomen. It is often found in the hot and humid places of our homes since these are the essential elements for its survival. It feeds on flour, starch, glue, paper derivatives as well as sugary foods. The female lays about a hundred eggs which can be found in cracks throughout the house. These eggs can take up to a month to hatch, depending on the humidity and heat to which they are exposed. They reach the adult stage in three years and can live up to seven years.
