Definition of a bed bug

The bed bug is reddish-brown in color, oval and flattened in shape, and measures between four and five millimeters. It is often found in cracks and dark places in the bedroom. It mainly invades mattresses and bedding where it is prone to bite humans at night to feed on their blood. Blood stains on bedding are often a sign of a likely presence of these little critters. The female lays two eggs per day which will hatch three weeks later. The young will reach the adult stage after 15 to 30 days. The complete life cycle of the bedbug is approximately 10 to 12 months.
