Carpet beetles are dark gray and round in shape. They are about three millimeters in length, have three transverse white lines and red irregular lines in the center of the back. It is the larvae that create the damage by attacking natural and animal fibers such as wool, fur, leather, silk, carpets and stuffed animals. The female lays her eggs on these types of material and her babies take 10 to 18 days to hatch. They leave homes in May to feed on pollen and nectar. Their life cycle is approximately 95 days.
