Bed bugs are more than a nuisance. They can also create health hazards for humans and pets.

The most challenging part of dealing with a bed bug problem is they are very difficult to see because of their size. On a good day, one of the little creatures could be smaller than a pencil eraser. They are also great little hiders that are able to find refuge in the smallest of cracks and crevices. Oh, they love to create their homes in mattresses/bedding and furniture cushions. Hence, the name “bed bugs.”

Since they reproduce quickly and can create serious health hazards, you can’t live with them. You have to take steps to get rid of them as soon as you know they exist. To help you in that endeavour, here are seven (7) tips for eradicating bed bugs. Note: These tips are listed in order to represent how bug extermination from a professional exterminator like Exterminateurs Associés might be considered a last resort option.

Find the 1nfestation Area or Areas

Initially, it will be very difficult for you to realize bedbugs have come home to roost in your home. When they first arrive, they are very good about hiding their whereabouts as they set up home. The first sign you have a bed bud problem might well be when they start biting you or your family members.

When you get that first indication the bugs are among you, you need to find out where they are nesting. There are two signs for which you can be looking. First, you should be looking for larger concentrations of bugs. That’s a good indication the nest is nearby. Second, these little nuisances will give out a “musky” odour when there is a large concentration of them in a small area.

Areas of concern would be baseboards, furniture cushions, under the mattress, electrical outlets, areas of concentrated trash (stack of newspapers, etc.), and wall and furniture cracks.

2. Containment

After you figure out the source or sources of the problem, you need to contain it and prevent it from getting worse. Remember, these bugs reproduce very quickly. A small, manageable problem can very quickly turn into a huge infestation.

Your containment efforts should include vacuuming up infested areas and cleaning all surfaces and materials that are connected with the infested area. Everything you can identify as infected should be sealed in plastic bags until discarded or washed. You would want and need to toss all vacuum cleaner bags and dispose of anything you don’t really need.

3. Clean-Up in Preparation for Treatment

After addressing the source of the problem and containing it, you need to get ready to treat infested areas. That should include putting away books, papers, clothes that are lying around, disposing of all trash, and removing loose items from infested areas.

After doing the initial cleanup, you should consider sealing cracks (floor, ceiling, wallpaper, furniture), sealing up of electrical outlets (favourite bedbug hiding place), and moving all furniture, especially your bed or beds, at least six inches away from any walls and other furniture. This will prevent the bugs from being able to climb on cleaned furniture.

4. Deep Clean All Applicable Furniture Bug

If you are going to attempt to eradicate bed bugs on your own, it’s best to try non-chemical options first. That is going to require deep cleaning of everything in areas where you saw at least one bug.

Hint: Bedbugs do not like extremely hot and cold conditions. You can kill them at hot temperatures of at least 115°F and cold temperatures below 32°F.

Here are a few deep cleaning suggestions to eliminate these bugs:

Wash clothes and bedding materials in hot water with detergent for 30 minutes, subsequently drying everything at hot heat

On hot days above 95°F, you can sit furniture and contaminated items outside all day long

Put bags of contaminated items in the freezer at 0°F temperatures for at least four days

Steam clean furniture, flooring, and walls with hot steam and cleaning chemicals

If you decide to try chemicals and insecticides, we would recommend the following: Pyrethrins and pyrethroids, pyrroles like chlorfenapyr, neonicotinoids nicotine), desiccants, and perhaps foggers and bug bombs. Note: Be wary of using chemicals that are harmful to humans.

To Eradicate Bed Bugs, Eliminate Possible Hiding Places

As you put everything back together and or in place, you will want to make sure you eliminate potential hiding places. Do one more check for cracks and crevices. Don’t store paper items and clothing on counters or the floor. You might want to consider sealing mattresses and furniture cushions in anti-bug covers or plastic.

6. Monitor for Success

After you have identified hiding places, thoroughly cleaned everything, and sealed up possible hiding places, you need to spend the next few weeks monitoring the results. A daily check of the areas where the infestations were the worse could help you identify an ongoing issue before it becomes a major problem once again.

7. Hire a Professional Exterminator

Many times, the elimination of these annoying little bugs is too much for a layperson to handle. Bug extermination can be a tedious and time-consuming process when administered by someone who has little to no experience in dealing with bed-bug issues.

If problems persist after your initial efforts, that would be the right time to consult with a professional exterminator like the Exterminateurs Associés. With the right knowledge base, experience, and chemicals, professional exterminators stand a much higher chance of success than you would, especially if your infestation were to be significant.

When spring arrives, the rise in temperature stimulates the activity of small rodents. Mice and rats, which have taken refuge indoors during the cold season, start actively exploring their outdoor environment. The aim is to find nesting sites and food sources.

Now is the time to look for the following traces in your home or warehouse:

rodent droppings (especially in food storage areas);

scratching noises in the attic or walls.

Bite marks on electrical cables, skirting boards or other surfaces
on wooden surfaces.

Mouse infestation indicators in summer

During the hot and sometimes humid summer months, the number of unwanted rodents tends to increase. Milder weather conditions become more conducive to their reproduction, which can lead to an increase in the number of mice or rats. The signs of a mouse infestation are generally :

the increasing presence of these rodents in parks, gardens and/or near garbage cans.

damage caused by these pests to outdoor structures and crops.

Another clue: when mice communicate with each other, you can hear high-pitched squeals. Especially when they feel threatened.

Rodents in autumn

With the onset of autumn, rodents begin to prepare for the colder months. Many try to find warm, isolated shelters. Buildings and homes are their preferred targets. In the areas they infest, you’ll notice a musky odor of urine. The presence of small, dark droppings and damage to chewed objects or gnawed threads should also be monitored.

During the winter

When temperatures drop significantly, these pests slip into all the warm spaces that can be found in warehouses, homes and even abandoned buildings. Even a badly damaged sewer pipe can become an interesting shelter for mice. Traces of their passage in the snow or scratches on the ice around the foundations can sometimes be seen. Inside homes, scratching noises, especially at night, are a sign of rodents in the attic, cellar or walls. In a dusty space, you may notice small paw prints.

The importance of reacting quickly

The presence of mice is a source of material and health risks. In fact, they can spread major pathologies such as salmonellosis, leptospirosis and hantavirus. These diseases affect both humans and pets. As a preventive measure, make sure your home is well protected against intrusion by mice and rats. Plug any inlets around windows, doors, foundations and cracks in walls. The sooner you react to the signs of these pests, the sooner the problem will be solved.

Pro tip:

An orderly, clean environment won’t attract rodent pests. Also avoid making food sources easily accessible to them. A mouse can squeeze into a space as small as a quarter.

The solution to rodent infestations in Montreal

You’re wondering how to protect yourself from bed bugs. Preventive measures are the best way to avoid this unpleasant situation. By applying the tips and tricks below, you will discourage them from moving into your home.

How to recognize a bed bug?

It is an insect without wings, of oval and flat shape, whose head is widened. Of brownish color, it measures up to 10 mm. The female produces 2 to 4 eggs per day (about 200 during her life). She deposits them in any location she considers well hidden. The bed bug feeds on human blood, which it collects through bites on different areas of the body. The small red spots can take up to 14 days to appear on the skin.

How do bed bugs get into an apartment?

Do you notice a corner of wallpaper peeling off in a room in your home? Quickly repair or remove it and then repaint.

Vacuum often, especially under beds and behind headboards. Take advantage of the opportunity to vacuum furniture fabrics (lift up the cushions!).

Cracks and fissures can occur between baseboards in walls, furniture, door and window frames. As soon as you notice them, seal them up!

Check often, in particular, the possible points of entry from the outside to the inside of the walls (entry of wiring, piping, utility equipment…) of your home and adjoining walls.

Wicker furniture (rattan) is particularly popular with bed bugs. It is advisable to clean them from time to time with water containing baking soda, lemon juice and vinegar.

It is not uncommon to find them behind or around decorative items (paintings, clock, mirrors, posters …).

Bed bugs can sometimes hide along the hems and between the folds of curtains and even under the brackets. They also like carpets and rugs that are no longer brand new.

These insects and other unwanted guests enjoy dirt and clutter, so keep your home clean and tidy. If you have a pet, check where they sleep too!

Be careful what you bring home

It is common to bring into a home new furniture and decorative accessories, used books, or items gleaned from junk sales and antique stores. Be careful with any items that are “second hand” or have been refurbished. Inspect them thoroughly on site or in a space away from your home. If you notice several white spots about 1 mm in size, they may be bed bug eggs.

If you have helped a friend or loved one move, check your vehicle if it was used to transport items and furniture before returning home.

You notice a sofa or mattress, which appears to be in good condition, that has been left out on the sidewalk. Better to leave it where it is!

When you return from a trip, thoroughly inspect everything you bring back. Do not place your suitcases on the bed or on the floor. Before checking, place them in the bath.

These precautions not only protect you from bed bugs, they prevent them from spreading to your neighbors’ homes.

What equipment is needed to properly inspect a home?

Bring a flashlight, a thin piece of plastic (an old credit card cut in half, for example) to access narrow spaces. You will also need a screwdriver to remove the current plates (after closing the electrical circuit) and disassemble some furniture. You will also need a bottle of rubbing alcohol, a window cleaner and several light-colored rags. If you notice reddish-brown spots when you rub, they may be bed bug droppings. After your household inspection, place used rags in plastic bags sealed with heavy duty tape and place in a trash can.

How to remove bed bugs in an apartment?

If you only see a few bed bugs, do a thorough cleaning of your apartment following the tips mentioned above. Wash your bedding with hot water. In the event of a larger infestation, it is best not to attempt to solve the problem yourself; it is recommended to call in commercial extermination specialists. An exterminator specialized in pest eradication will visit the site to evaluate the level of infestation and apply solutions. He’ll have all the necessary training and experience to take charge of the problem and advise you in order to avoid a new infestation.

Pesticide use – the use of pesticides outside buildings is regulated

In the province of Quebec, the use and storage of pesticides outside of buildings is governed by specific regulations.

Find out how to comply with the standards.

If you have a rat or mouse problem in or around your building, don’t hesitate to call our rat extermination service.

Regulations and licensing

Quebec law contains certain regulations regarding the use of pesticides. Quebec law contains certain regulations regarding the use of pesticides.

Each use must be recorded in an up-to-date logbook. Permit holders must submit this document, at the end of the year, to the city affected by this regulation.

For outdoor storage, sufficient distance from watercourses (and all water withdrawal sites) to avoid the risk of contamination must be provided. A violation of this regulation can result in a fine, whether it is an individual or a company. Revocation of this permit may be applied when the conditions of use of the products concerned are not respected.

*Any business that sells or uses pesticides in its commercial activity must apply for a permit. Sellers and users of these products are required to hold a certificate.

Pesticide use in cities

Municipalities must comply with pesticide regulations based on their local circumstances, but sometimes a problem can be difficult to resolve. For example, the increase in rats in Montreal is currently a concern.
This city regulates the use of pesticides and, since January 2022, 36 molecules used in the manufacture of pesticides are now prohibited. They are found in insecticides, fungicides, herbicides and rodenticides. Many of the products used to eradicate rats contain these molecules. In order to comply with the regulations, it is therefore essential for individuals or organizations wishing to use rat poison products to ensure that these molecules are not present.

The City of Montreal recommends, whenever possible, the use of biopesticides or other natural alternatives to protect the health of its citizens and the environment. Healthier alternatives for getting rid of pests are available at www.montreal.ca.

Commercial use

Commercial applicators are required to have an annual pesticide use permit. These include exterminators, farmers, foresters, golf course owners, nurserymen and landscapers, and lawn care and ornamental operators.

They usually use pesticides to eradicate…

mice, field mice, rats, wasp nests and ant nests
carpenter ;
– organisms harmful to the flora and survival of trees
– Poisonous plants (e.g. poison ivy, Giant Hogweed);
– organisms that attack domestic fowl and bees;
– or when it is an agricultural operation.

Upon obtaining their annual license, these individuals are added to the Official List of Commercial Pesticide Applicators in good standing. They should always keep the permit handy when using pesticides.

How do I obtain a pesticide use permit or certificate?

On the website www.quebec.ca, you can download free of charge online a model of the Pesticide Use Register and a certificate (the different categories of pesticide use certificate are mentioned).

All of our extermination services come with a free estimate and are backed by our guarantee. Call for more information.

For several months, many Montrealers have noticed an increase in the number of rats around them. These infrequent little friends infest the most popular and well-off neighborhoods, without distinction. They often cause great fright to the inhabitants who have the bad luck to meet them. Despite the lack of consideration of public authorities and owners, rats are becoming a real problem in Montreal.

What are the causes of this invasion?

Each city knows a more or less important number of small rodents which come to inhabit the pipes and the unhealthy places … Sometimes even the healthiest houses. Several boroughs in the city of Montreal, we devote a section on their website to explain the procedures to follow to carry out a rat control .

For example, Montreal has more than 4 million rats, or about two rats for one inhabitant! The problem probably stems from public works . Indeed, the numerous road repairs and other large-scale works are modifying the urban physiognomy. This pushes the rats out of their cue, ie the sewers. The street cleanliness problems are often involved as well. The more garbage lurks in the streets, the more rats will walk there to find something to eat. Rats are very clever animals and are wary of any change in their environment; the challenge is therefore to be smarter than them in order to finally get rid of it and limit any risk that may arise!

What are the consequences of a rat problem?

It is difficult to have an overview of the problem, with precise figures, since the extermination companies do not necessarily inform the town hall of their interventions. Also, some people try to fix the problem on their own. Beyond the fact that many people are disgusted by the presence of rats, or worse are frightened … The problem is mainly sanitary; our health is therefore an issue. Indeed, rats are disease carriers that are transmitted to humans. From diseases, hantavirus can be fatal. It is rare that they bite humans, but they like to enter houses and apartments, where there is food, and leave there excrement or saliva in which all kinds of diseases thrive.

How to fix your rat problem once and for all?

Montrealers have the right reflex by calling on a exterminator . This is the most effective and sustainable solution to get rid of the little bugs that infest our home. Thus, several Montreal extermination companies have noted a sharp increase in calls for rapid intervention. If tenants notice the presence of rats in their homes, the procedure to follow is to call the landlords to employ a rental company. rat extermination . Landlords thus have an obligation to act: indeed, if they decide to turn a deaf ear to the demands of their tenants, the City of Montreal can ask them, via an official notice, to hire a professional rat exterminator.

If the poisons used to eradicate rats are effective, they can also worsen your situation. Contrary to popular belief, no poison causes the animal to dry out when it dies. The liquids stop circulating and the flesh will rot which causes a very bad smell. To check for the presence of rats in the sewerage of the building, it is necessary to make a smoke test carried out by professional exterminators.

Pest control: how to avoid a bug or rodent infestation!

Being invaded in your house or restaurant by insects or other unwanted rodents is never a piece of cake.

In this area, prevention is better than cure and prophylactic measures are often life-saving.

Let’s take a look at the different aspects that must be taken into account in order to avoid an infestation and not be invaded.

The most common pests in Montreal

Among the most common pests that we are likely to find in Montreal kitchens, we first find five insects which are:

• The house fly
• the fruit fly
• flour insects
• the German cockroach, also called cockroach or cockroach
• the ant.

Among rodents, the most common are rats and mice. These small animals can cause great damage to your home.

Let’s sift through these different pests in order to better understand the parasite management that results from them.

Infographic: Pest management

House fly

The fly is generally an accepted insect, but it should not be tolerated inside your business or your home.

Attracted to food and anything dirty, it can spread disease and contaminate food. If you’re dealing with too many house flies, a sticky trap is likely to do the trick.

Regarding restaurants, it is strongly recommended to install a mosquito net on the windows and to close them to prevent flies from entering your business.

Of course, on a terrace or in general outside, it is not possible to completely eradicate the house fly. This is not the goal because this insect plays an important role in nature!

Fruit fly

The fruit fly is an invasive and stubborn insect.

In order not to be invaded by the latter and to avoid an infestation, it is important to remove all stagnant water, not to leave dirty dishes lying around and to be very vigilant with all the sugars in fermentation, such as fruits, for example. overripe or bottoms of sugary drinks.

The most important prophylactic measure remains cleanliness and the latter is the best way to guard against this unwanted host which can reproduce again very quickly.

Cockroach

The common variety in Quebec is the German cockroach, also sometimes called cockroach or cockroach .

Just like the fly, it is attracted to anything that is dirty as well as to food. She is able to get inside your business or home in many ways, her imagination at this level seemingly limitless.

This can be through the pipes, holes in the walls but also ordering groceries, foods that should now be closely examined when buying used household appliances.

To avoid dealing with these pests, here again impeccable hygiene is essential, as is the fact of filling all the holes likely to create a passage for them.

Flour insects

The flour insects are the base of the larvae which have the ability to live inside food. They can then transform into a butterfly. The best way not to be confronted with it is on the one hand to avoid all cardboard containers and then to store food in perfectly airtight and rigid containers.

A larva is able to pierce paper or cardboard and then enter the heart of your food store. The consequences can be dire and you can end up with your entire pantry overrun.

The ants

The ants are drawn to food and although living outdoors, are able to adapt perfectly to the interior of your home or business. It is possible to guard against this by placing suitable products at the various strategic locations.

If it is discovered at home, it is important to try to locate the nest in order to try to get rid of the colony.

Rodents

Rodents such as rats or mice are small animals that are extremely agile and able to squeeze into every nook and cranny or small opening.

They can therefore easily invest your establishment or your home and cause considerable damage. Sewage problems can be the basis of a rat infestation, but rodents are generally attracted to garbage and food.

Restaurants must be very vigilant with their waste containers and place them if possible in a closed room so that they are not accessible by rodents.

If necessary, traps can be placed near to further limit the risks.

Food should not be stored in the open air

Whether you are a professional or an individual, this rule is particularly important to respect.

Food should never be stored in the open. In addition, take care to put any leftovers in a trash can.

These aspects are the primary basis for a good pest management . Remember that if you are a food professional, you are required, according to the law in force, to protect yourself against pests.

Remove all wetlands

Wetlands are true blessing bread for all insects.

Thus, it is imperative to avoid stagnant water which is a real boon for both mosquitoes and other insects. These wetlands not only allow them to reproduce more easily but also to survive.

Do not hesitate to seek an exterminator

In case of doubts or infestation, it is strongly recommended to call a aqgp exterminator competent and licensed. Take the trouble to choose it wisely by doing your research and making comparisons.

Ideally, your exterminator should be part of a association like aqgp , which should be enough to attest to the seriousness of its services. In addition, he should have liability insurance in the event of damage to your property.

Some exterminators offer monthly prevention contracts that allow you to anticipate risky situations and this solution is probably one of the best. So of course, this will require a certain investment on your part that will have to be budgeted, but this way of doing things is particularly interesting for professionals.

Also remember that a good exterminator usually offers insurance ranging from a few months to a year, something that can give you a lot of security in the beginning. To close, avoid playing sorcerer’s apprentice, both in terms of prophylaxis and in case of infestation.

Be content to simply follow the instructions and recommendations of your exterminator and do not improvise.

Some products or insecticides can be very dangerous if not handled in the right way and can put your family or customers at risk. Only seasoned professionals are able to make the right decisions and ensure that the same problems do not end up happening again.

Sanitary inspection of restaurants in Montreal

Whether it’s Kalohin, Saint-Jean Bagel or Cristal Chinois, these three restaurants have one unenviable commonality: they are all part of the list of unhealthy restaurants in Montreal for the year 2019 . So decided by the Sanitary Inspectorate of Restaurants in Montreal. The latter rendered a relentless verdict against them, highlighting hygiene concerns sufficiently obvious to include them in this list much feared by restaurateurs. Every year, the Restaurant Sanitary Inspectorate in Montreal carries out very rigorous control work in order to protect consumers. Indeed, more and more establishments are concerned by unhealthy problems linked, among other things, to rats. Detecting the presence of these is not necessarily an easy thing and getting rid of them requires the intervention of professionals most of the time.

Know the signs of a mouse or rat infestation

Recognizing the signs that could potentially point to the presence of mice and rats in your restaurant is not easy. Mice and rats are not only nocturnal animals but also extremely clever, so much so that it is very difficult to see them on a daily basis. However, there are signs that may indicate the presence of these unwanted hosts. The traces of excrement are the first point that is likely to betray these animals. Rat droppings can be anywhere from ten to eight centimeters in length and can be found in large numbers when these rodents are active. If you find any, it is imperative to be very careful in handling them and to wash your hands well to avoid any form of contamination. Another sign is tooth marks on furniture.

Rats’ teeth grow continuously, so they have to gnaw constantly. If you pay attention, you can also hear scratching noises. The brown rat is a rodent that is not a good climber and has a tendency to cling in order not to fall. The black rat is much more agile, which is why it is more easily found in attics. An infestation of rats is very dangerous as they can cause great damage by attacking all your cables and even create fires. They will shamelessly endanger your food reserves and can represent a serious threat in terms of hygiene and disease transmission.

How to get rid of rats in your restaurant?

Wanting to eradicate these rodents is often akin to the obstacle course if you decide to do it yourself. Of course, it is always possible to try to install traps in order to try to trap the rodents in question. However, a rat infestation is not something to be taken lightly. Most of the time, using mouse and rat exterminators is absolutely essential. Rats are by nature extremely agile and suspicious, and they possess the ability to thwart traps set for them. This is why, generally, only seasoned professionals are able to overcome it. Remember that a rat is able to fit through a tiny hole as small as two centimeters.

The slightest crack or opening can be beneficial to him and he will be able to hide extremely easily and go completely unnoticed. The rat seeks heat and is in perpetual search for food, attacking anything in its path. If you are faced with rats in your restaurant, your best bet is not to panic and to get in touch as soon as possible with competent professionals. Your problem will be immediately taken care of in order to sanitize the infested area of your establishment.

Try not to be on the next list of restaurants to avoid and do not hesitate to call on the Associated exterminators . This will be the guarantee for you not to be confronted with insalubrity. Make sure you have your certificate from MAPAQ, the Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. The latter has a great influence on the biofood sector, both in terms of production, processing and distribution. In all cases, make it a point of honor to be perfectly in order and to respect the standards in force so as not to be worried by the Sanitary Inspectorate. Consumer safety is also a concern.

Cockroache pest control in Montreal

The cockroach is certainly the species among the most common insects in places of residence and commerce in Quebec. In this city, the cockroach or cockroach is commonly called cockroach.cockroach extermination in Montreal is a real problem. The presence of cockroaches is not necessarily a sign of uncleanliness, but these insects are known to cause a lot of damage.

Which have no impact on the structure itself, as termites would, but the consequences are more of a health nature. The cockroach pollutes every place it passes, multiplying at a frightening rate and leaving an unpleasant odor. It can produce up to a hundred thousand descendants per year. This insect can also be attracted to your bathroom and library. The cockroach also damages paper and therefore books. It is essential to proceed to cockroach extermination in your immediate environment.

Knowing how to recognize the presence of cockroaches

Cockroach is an insect of the ectobiidae family, whose reputation is very often associated with dirt. But think again. The presence of the cockroach is simply due to poor house maintenance thus generating favorable conditions for the development of these insects. The cockroach is very often a caramel color, tending towards black, brown or chestnut. The size of the insect varies depending on the species. In Quebec, we mainly find German cockroaches, and their average size is 1.3 cm.

It has an oval shape, thorny legs, a flat body and has very long thread-like antennae. Cockroaches normally live in the forest. But in recent years, we have found a domestic species that appreciates the humidity and heat of indoor spaces a little more, in addition to the food to which it can easily access in our living and working places. Of the 4000 species of cockroaches in the world, there are just over 70 in Canada, including around 15 in Quebec.

These cockroaches can be found anywhere, especially when it is hot and dark: in the attic or laundry basket, the dining room, on a fruit display, etc. You have to be careful because even fruit bought around the corner can contain larvae. They like dark places and shy away from light. If you notice cockroach activity during the day, it is good that there is a whole colony living in the vicinity. Their reproductive capacity is still astonishing.

Why should a cockroach extermination be carried out?

If any of your spaces, whether it is your kitchen or your display, is invaded by cockroaches, it is strongly recommended that you take action and call in an expert. insect exterminator . Cockroaches very often leave their droppings in food preparation areas such as the kitchen, or on the food itself. This can therefore cause contamination of food and the transmission of disease.

The most common cockroach species is the German cockroach, which is the cause of more than 70% of cockroach infestations in Quebec. The risk of poisoning is therefore high when cockroaches have taken possession of your environment, since they reproduce quickly and are a real vehicle of bacteria of all kinds. Cockroaches can therefore be the cause of skin or urinary tract infections, allergies, hepatitis and even allergies. A insect exterminator will know how to develop the right strategy for you to put an end to a cockroach invasion.

How to get rid of cockroaches?

It is necessary to take a minimum of provisions if one does not want to be invaded by cockroaches. Cockroaches primarily attack food. It is therefore necessary to store them well in well sealed, dry and clean containers. It is necessary to be able in all the rooms of the house to avoid humidity and to keep all the places very dry. After each meal, it is advisable to immediately clean up spills on the floor or table.

You shouldn’t miss taking out the trash or washing the dishes every day. Call in your plumber or mason for each finding of a crack in the wall or a leak in your taps. One action to be taken, and which is not the least, is to keep the interior temperature below -4 ° C. Cockroaches cannot stand such a temperature. In short, always keep the spaces clean, proceed to the continuous elimination of the various water sources, and avoid that there are openings of the house to the outside.

Why contact the associated exterminators?

It’s never too late to get rid of cockroaches. Call on certified exterminators. The cockroach is very resistant. But the associated exterminators , experts and discreet exterminators , based on their experience of more than 40 years, find according to the environment the best solution for the eradication of cockroaches in your workplace or home.

The treatment they offer presents no danger to human health and all this takes place in strict compliance with environmental standards. It will not be a partial elimination, but a definitive elimination of these insects from your environment.

Deer mice, white-footed mice and common gray mice, certain species of mice are particularly invasive and represent a nuisance when they colonize and proliferate in our homes and public premises. These species are fond of urban areas and do not hesitate to invest our homes where they find the conditions conducive to their expansion (humidity, heat and food).

The source of much material damage in our homes, these harmful hosts are also vectors of potentially dangerous diseases, most of which are transmissible to humans.

Particularly prolific, the invasion of these rodents has been on the rise for several years and affects around 9% of households in Montreal, according to a survey by the DSP (Direction de Santé Publique).

The quality of life and the health risks involved must not be neglected. From the first signs of infestation (droppings, urine deposits, etc.), the best alternative to stem the proliferation of these undesirable is to quickly contact exterminators in Montreal for get rid of mice definitely and regain a healthy environment.

What is a mouse?

Animal whose activity is mainly nocturnal, the mouse is a small rodent mammal whose size reaches about 20 cm at maturity and weighs between 10 and 50 grams. Their very early sexual maturity promotes extremely rapid reproduction (up to 15 litters per year).

Endowed with an excellent sense of balance, a very developed hearing and smell, the common (or house) gray mouse is distinguished by its brown coat on the back and dark gray on the belly, a pointed muzzle , small eyes, big ears and a long tail.

A real scourge of our homes, these rodents are active all year round and cause significant health and material nuisances which require urgent intervention by mouse exterminators .

Why extermination of mice is important

A real public health issue, the presence of mice in a building causes health damage which is not without consequences on human health. These intruders contaminate our environment with their excreta (saliva, urine, excrement) and contaminate our living spaces.

Mice are known to health services to carry many pathogens (bacteria, viruses and parasites), the cause of certain potentially fatal diseases transmissible to humans and domestic animals (salmonellosis, leptospirosis, Hanta virus, among others. ).

Repellents and mouse traps are temporary solutions

To fight against the invasion of mice, the use of certain chemical (repellents) and physical (traps) devices is a solution that only temporarily regulates the intrusion of these pests in our homes.

To effectively control rodent infestation and site decontamination, the mouse repellent and trapping must be combined with preventive measures and health precautions against the intrusion of pests (search for and condemn access points, remove nesting areas and food sources, etc.).

Why choose an exterminator for your mouse problem?

The mice are very agile and fit into the smallest gap in your frame, causing considerable material damage.

To quickly fight against the intrusion of mice in your living space, only a certified exterminator is able to accomplish the essential steps of locating and plugging the areas where mice enter your home.

Whatever the configuration of your accommodation (bungalow or duplex), the exterminators carry out a meticulous exterior check of your building to identify and condemn the access points to your interior.

The know-how of the exterminator is essential to detect the presence of mice on a site, to determine its species and its behavioral characteristics to carry out a extermination of mice and methodical and final cleaning up of your home, in accordance with current health regulations.

Carpenter ants are hymenopterous insects, generally black or red depending on the species, sometimes tinged with brown, the size of which varies from 6 to 12 mm. They live mainly in the trunks of dead trees but it is not uncommon to find them inside homes. Their presence is not without risk because they can weaken the wooden structures of the house such as the frame.

In the spring, it is the mating period.

This takes place in full flight, which is why, from the month of May, we can see swarms of flying ants moving in the sky. Let’s find out a little more about the life of these insects

What is their way of life?

Their habits

They are insects that live in hierarchical society . Each colony consists of males, sterile workers and future queens, each with a well-defined role. In the natural environment, their preferred habitat is damp rotting wood in which they dig galleries. As soon as they find ideal conditions inside houses (humidity, rotting of wood), they settle there and cause irreversible damage. Indeed, they weaken the wooden structures that they dig. This is why it is essential to carry out the extermination of carpenter ants

The reproduction

With the arrival of spring, queens carpenter ants wake up and venture outside their nest to mate. These flying ants , also called winged queens, are fertilized by males in flight. This is what we call “the nuptial flight” . Only females survive this mating. After shedding their wings, they look for a place to lay their eggs and y establish their new colony . Ten days later larvae hatch, then transform in nymphs inside of their cocoon . Later, satellite colonies are dug by the workers to extend the territory of the queen of the carpenter ants.

Their diet

These insects are omnivorous. They feed, not on wood as one might think, but on honeydew, produced by aphids, small insects and fruits . Inside homes, they love sweet products and foods containing protein (plant and animal). This is why it is important not to leave leftover food within reach.

Where can they be found ?

The places frequently invaded by ants are:

around windows and doors if the seal is failing.

in damp rooms (kitchen and bathroom).

in the parquet floors and at the level of the plinths.

in the attic, at the level of the framework.

in the woodpiles near the houses.

In a general way, these insects look for any trace of moisture wherever she is. Be careful, their presence can reveal water damage!
But how do they get inside homes? There are several causes for this.

Either a fertilized queen has entered the house to lay her eggs and created a new colony there.

Either a satellite nest was created inside by the workers, the main nest being outside ( this is the most common cause ).

Either the inhabitants of the house have inadvertently introduced them with firewood for example.

Some received ideas

Unlike termites, carpenter ants are not xylophagous . They do not digest the cellulose in wood. If they dig the beams, it is only to find refuge there. We can see the presence of small piles of sawdust near the anthills.

They can be useful and play an ecological role . They are a link in the food chain because they eat small harmful insects. On the other hand, they are the prey of many insectivorous birds. They ensure the decomposition of dead wood and stumps.

The little white balls that they move are not the eggs of carpenter ants, as is often said. These are, in fact, the cocoons of the nymphs . Carpenter ant eggs are much smaller and difficult to see with the naked eye.

If you think you have a carpenter ants infestation, call a team of extermination experts carpenter ants . They will put their skills and experience at your disposal to get rid of these annoying insects.
